The comparison between highways and high-speed rail has always favored rail on throughput, safety, and energy efficiency. For decades, urban planners and policymakers have pushed rail as the solution to freight and passenger corridor congestion — at enormous infrastructure cost.
The Rail Argument Is Incomplete
High-speed rail solves the throughput problem — but at $30–80 million per kilometer of new infrastructure, it is not a scalable answer for the USA or India. More critically, rail requires passengers and cargo to travel station-to-station. The last-mile problem is unsolved.
The Four Pillars of the HEART System

The Numbers
Simulation results from our Simulink models show that a single HEART-enabled highway lane can achieve throughput comparable to a high-speed rail line — at approximately 5% of the infrastructure cost. The road network already exists. We are not asking governments to build anything new. We are asking them to make what they already have intelligent.
